Tell us about your background in SEO, PPC and marketing strategy.
I have worked in freelance and agency environments providing branding and marketing solutions for a variety of businesses over the past six years. My background is in design so I came into marketing as a web/graphic designer but as my career has progressed, I’ve moved more and more toward the SEO, PPC and marketing strategy side of the industry. I’m an artist at heart and that creative drive enables me to find innovative solutions to complex problems.
What’s your favorite aspect of the web development and marketing?
I enjoy working in a creative field and in general I get a lot of satisfaction out of being involved in making other individuals successful. When my work directly correlates to a company’s growth it feels pretty good. I specifically enjoy analyzing the data that we collect while tracking advertising and optimization. Tracking data gamifies the experience and creates an environment where I can set clearly defined goals. It feels really good achieving those goals.
Favorite thing to do outside of work?
I love to exercise and play games. I’m somewhat of a gym rat but I also love to go on hikes near Mount Hood, the Gorge, in Sun River, or elsewhere. I’ve also been lucky enough to go hiking in Spain on the Camino de Santiago. I enjoy all kinds of games; video games, board games, card games, etc. The more strategy required the better.
Do you have a quote or mantra or swear word that gets you through particularly rough days?
I do but I don’t know if I should say it here. I have a method for calming my self and clearing my mind when stress builds up. I start in a seated position, relaxing my body allowing my hands to fall to my side. I take a deep breath in and slowly exhale. And then I say to myself, “F it”. Essentially most things you get worked up about don’t matter as much as you think they do and most situations have a solution despite seeming daunting. Allowing yourself to get past the fact that there is a problem is the first step to finding a solution. Being calm and clear minded enables you to best find a solution to the problem and letting go of petty feelings reduces tension improving your mood.
When your inspirational quote fails you, do you have a favorite drink?
I’m not much of a cocktail drinker, I usually default to a whiskey neat (Canadian whiskey, Irish whiskey, bourbon or scotch are all good in my book). My go-to whiskey is Pendleton. When it comes to cocktails Moscow Mule is my favorite.
Do you have any “heroes”?
I have had a lot of different heroes over the years from Athletes to Rock Stars to Social Activists. As I’ve grown as an individual my interests and aspirations have changed and today I would consider innovators like Brian Chesky (CEO of Airbnb) to be my heroes.
