Late last year Facebook updated their Groups feature. Facebook Groups is essentially a place where you can communicate and share information with a subset of your friends on Facebook. There are several purposes for creatingGroups. The main purpose is to help people on Facebook socialize around a topic or community.
This post is the sixth in a series titled: 10 Facebook Marketing Tips and Strategies for Your Healthcare Staffing Company. In this post we will provide you with information on how to get the most out of Facebook Groups for your healthcare staffing company.
Facebook Groups provides a more specific way of defining the groups of people your interact with on Facebook. Groups can help define what your company is about and what ideas and information you are promoting.
For example, you could create different groups based on the kinds of staff you have – RN's, Techs, Therapists, Physicians, etc. Or, you could even use Facebook Groups as a way to communicate and share with your internal company staff.
Groups work differently than your Facebook company page. If you already have a Facebook Page for your healthcare staffing company, you might consider also adding a Group because:
- Groups potentially create more engagement and participation
- Groups have more features that benefit the group as a whole
- Groups can be exclusive and help filter our non relevant information
- Groups can be private
- Groups better empower an energize your most active and loyal fans
Facebook Group features that can benefit your healthcare staffing company:
Group Notifications. Perhaps the most significant features of Facebook Groups is Group Notifications. Group Notifications allow administrators to message group members directly. In addition, all items posted to the wall within a group will generate notifications. These notification alerts bring users back to the group.
Group Chat. Group chat is new to Facebook Groups with this last release. All members of a group have the ability to engage in chat. All group members can chat through a single chat window or individual chat rooms can be created amongst the members.
Document Sharing. Facebook Groups also provides you with basic text document sharing. The sharing allows for small mark up edits as well as a revision history which users can navigate back through. Don't be tricked into thinking this is as good as Google Docs, but it still provides some benefits.
Things not to do with Facebook Groups:
Invite – Don't Add. Facebook Groups allows you to add any friend you want to a group. We'd recommend not doing this. The reason being that because it's kind of 'spammy' and requires the person you've added to 'opt out' if they don't want to be in the group. A better way is to simply invite people to your Group.
Don't drive conversation away from your company page. It might be a good idea to keep your groups and group conversations resigned to specific, relevant topics for the group. Keep all brand-related conversations on your Facebook company page so as to not neglect other parts of your audience.
Facebook groups are an integral component of the entire Facebook experience. Therefore, working this into your social media marketing strategies is a good idea. With the group chat, docs, and messaging features, Facebook Groups can play a significant role in social communications with your audience by increasing brand awareness, customer loyalty, referrals and research.
